Majestic Silvertip Grizzly

No, I did not take this photo. No bear here. A good friend from Montana took this photo last week. What a super shot of this Silvertip Griz. I am glad it was headed away from my friend and not coming towards her! Thanks to C. for sending this to me so I would have an exciting November photo to blog! I surely wish I could have been on this day trip to the North Fork. As always if you want to see the griz up and close please click on the photo to enlarge.

  1. We only have black bear here and I still would rather see them going than coming.

    Great picture!

I know. I ran into a black bear this summer and sure would not want to have to defend myself. They are plenty BIG!

  2. As far as I know, there aren’t any bears in Mississippi. There used to be black bears in the southern part of the state, but they seem to have either found some other habitat or were moved. But we are seeing more deer here in the cities and towns than you can imagine. In fact, I live near the downtown of my little metropolis of 25,000, and two days ago I saw a doe with two VERY tiny babies less than a block from my house! I guess the hot, dry weather of the summer didn’t leave anything for them to eat out in the country, so they have come to town to get food!

  3. We’ve also had Momma Griz and her two cubs bed down on the back lawn right outside the bedroom window…now THAT is a might too close for comfort when you’re asleep and only a glass pane separates you from now and eternity!!! But this griz looked absolutely silver while looking head-on…then brown from the side. If you look closely at his outline, you can see the silver tips of his hair. Quite a story…I. and I will tell you about it next summer!
