Real 50s Cowboy

Found these great photos of one of cowboy’s uncles. This photo was taken in 1952 – James and his beloved horse Salty. He and his horse left the southwest to ride all the way to San Diego and back. He loved his horse Salty. He loved riding. Anybody who would ride their horse that far has got to be one heck of a real cowboy! These two photos are so much fun and I loved finding them. Loving the vintage western attire. The photos are just screaming COWBOY! Don’t you just love the second horse pose???

Update: Cowboy let me know that he was “packing” a pistol on each side for his trip. Try doing that these days! Makes the story even more fun!

  1. Wow, those are so wonderful! How awesome that there’s history in them for you! 🙂

  2. Hard to see in this photo but notice the 45 on his hip. There are 2 one on each side and they are a matching set he had made. Beautiful!! Guess he had the right to carry way back then!!! He was a fun uncle and he and my dad knew everything about horses. They played with their horses like most people play with dogs. Too much fun as a kid with all my uncles.

  3. Reminds me of the man in “The Lone Ranger”! He came on every Sunday afternoon at 4:30–HAD to be home for that! LOVED “Ranger” and “Tonto”! I even met them once at a state fair–and got to ride with him on “Silver”!! One of my best childhood memories! I know I would have loved to know Cowboy’s uncle–AND his guns!

  4. Love this!!!! A man’s man. And a horse’s horse.

  7. What great pictures and great memories! Thanks so much for sharing. I have pictures of my dad in the Santa Rosa Palomino Club. I’ll bet you remember that too. (but he didn’t pack!)
