Blueberries & Raspberries

After a long cooler spring and summer in Montana this year, our friends have finally been able to enjoy their berries these last few weeks. Many summers I am in Montana when the fruit ripens to perfection and everyone begins picking fruit to enjoy right off the bushes or later in a pie, cobbler or something else equally as wonderful.

Strangely enough, I am one of those rare individuals who is not a fruit lover… even in pies! So although I enjoy the beauty of the bushes and trees flowering and later producing lovely fruit, I really do not enjoy eating the fruit. I do have a few exceptions! I love apples, cherries, strawberries, oranges and an occasional banana. When in the mood I also enjoy grapefruit and cantaloupe. But not to worry… I will eat any vegetable you give to me. I love my veggies the best.

Thanks to N. for sending me these lovely photos last week. Even though I do not eat these I sure love being there when they are picked! I was in Montana when everything was flowering and hated to miss watching the fruit harvest!

I love the way blueberries look when nearly ready. I think they win the award for being the cutest little berries!

Raspberries are always beautiful when the fruit appears.

My friend picks the berries in these little red buckets which hang on the fence which makes for such a sweet “Norman Rockwell” type of sight! It just wouldn’t be summer without seeing these little red buckets.

It really is nice. My friends can pick blueberries, blackberries, cherries, apples, pears and various other things.

  2. I like berries of all types, and veggies of all types, but I will not TOUCH A BANANA! It kills me, too, I’m supposed to love bananas – I’m a runner! But no way!

  3. Oh, yum! We haven’t found many berries for sale here in Romania, and when we went to a nearby this weekend, all the bushes were picked clean already. So I’ll just imagine how these taste. =>

Sorry you did not find any! But, what a scenic drive you probably had trying to find them. Am loving your photos of Romania!!

  4. Did someone say “pie”. I love fruit pretty much only in baked pies. Richard

  5. I love all of the summer fruit!

  6. Our strawberries are done…boo, hoo, but they were yummy. Can’t wait for the huckleberries to ripen so we can pick a bunch for jam.

  7. As a child, we picked wild Do-berries that often was used to later make jellies. My little brother and I eat them straight from the bush when we did not have a fruit war throwing them at each other staining our clothing. My mother was never please to see those shirts. I grew up appreciating those summer days as those blooms turned to ripen fruits.

What a wonderful memory! I have heard of those berries, but have never seen them before. Kids have the best time in the most simple of times!
