My special stand-by for brownies is a recipe that was given to me by my sister’s mother-in-law. She has been gone for years, but I continue to make her brownies. She was a lovely lady and would make a batch and just drop them by for no reason. They are always delicious and when I make them they are gone in a flash. Hope you enjoy these brownies!
Mae’s Brownies
- 1 stick of butter
- 6 tbsp. Ghirardelli chocolate
Melt the above on low heat in a pan.
Then add:
- 1 cup sugar
Then add:
- 2 eggs, slightly beaten
- 1 cup flour
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1 cup walnuts, chopped
Pour in a 9x9x2 square pan. Bake 30 minutes at 350°. Check and add a few minutes if toothpick does not come out clean.
Can be eaten alone, dusted lightly with powdered sugar or frosted. We love this recipe “as is” served with milk!
* You must use the Ghiradelli chocolate or they do not taste the same.

They are my favs & are just a little different than some recipes. Everyone loves them.
Oh my. Now your speaking my love language! Can’t wait to try them – I’m sure they have no calories because the recipe came from a friend – right?!
Nope, no calories! It’s terrible , but I can nearly eat them all!
Mmm, mmm! My mouth was watering while reading this brownie recipe. The use of Ghiradelli chocolate really appeals to me. I think I will bake up a batch over the weekend. Thanks for sharing!
I love that chocolate also. Hope you dnjoy this family favorite of ours!
Yum! You had me at Ghirardelli.
Yes, one of my favorite chocolates. I made one time with another chocolate & these brownies did not even taste the same…
Oh, dear. What a perfectly lovely thing to start the weekend … I say start, because if I make them this afternoon we’ll eat them all before the weekend officially arrives. Yum!!
Yes, they never last very long at all!
I have never had a really good Brownie recipe! So I am hoping this one will be IT! Does it “double” well?
I have never doubled it so not sure. Guess I should try!
These sound delicious! Brownies and vanilla ice cream anyone?!? I think so!
Yes, best with ice cream!!
I keep forgetting to tell you that I made these for Valentine’s Day and they were delicious! Fortunately I had all of the ingredients on hand from another brownie recipe that turned out to be a big flop! Mae’s brownie recipe saved the day, though. Thank you!
That is great! She was a really sweet lady and I think of her everytime I make them!
Thanks for posting this, WC!
No other brownie will do…she was a lovely lady.
