Great Gardening Tip

We have had a week of warm sunny weather which means I get a case of spring fever! This always involves doing spring planting in all my empty pots. This weekend I planted some Mexican Feather Grass and a few Yuccas. Before I add my potting soil this is what I add to each pot.

Two benefits:

  1. Makes for great drainage
  2. Use less potting soil

Keep those water bottles! The small work great for small pots and regular bottles work for large pots. I have used up to 10 bottles in really huge pots and this method really helps with drainage and amount of potting soil used. It is my favorite gardening tip!

  1. That is a brilliant idea! Using less potting soil makes the pots much easier to move around, I bet. I’m definitely going to use your trick (once the snow finally melts here and I can start gardening again).

  2. Oh wow! That is the coolest idea. I’m hoping to plant some pots this weekend, so I’ll be sure to use this trick. Thanks for sharing. :)

  3. Great idea! Maybe someday soon I can actually plant again!

  4. That is a great idea, I have never heard of this before & will definitely have to give it a whirl.
