I know what all of you are thinking…how long does it take to name two new donkey’s? I am the first to admit that I have had a really hard time deciding on names. I had a huge list thanks to all of you who submitted names. I posted the list on the fridge and looked over them every single day for the last month or two, but I just never could really make a decision. I really wanted the names to reflect their personalities. For those of you who did not catch my March 6th post I will give you a little update. Cowboy and I woke one day to find that someone had dumped a mom and her new baby in front of our farm. They were so scared, hungry and very sweet. We brought them into the donkey pasture and let them start grazing with our donkey’s. Such sad eyes and so very gentle, but very scared of everything. We just let them stay put and within days I was totally in love. These days you cannot find good homes for any donkey. No way I was going to send them away. In April we delivered them to our vet who had a tech that could work with them everyday. They stayed a month and received daily training and attention. We finally picked them up this week and I was ready to commit to giving them their special names.
Our new little mama will be Patty!
Our new little baby will be Lily!
Their names are perfect. They are so very sweet and still shy. These names just seemed like a perfect match.
We got a little shock at the vets. Little Lily is around 6 months old. Mama Patty is only about 18 months old so she was way too young to be having a baby. Donkey’s really should not be bred until they are around three. Can you imagine; poor Patty being a baby herself survived having a baby only to be dumped on a road. She has every reason to be scared and shy. It makes my heart love her so much because she is such an excellent mama to Lily. It really is amazing how a baby could be such a good mother under such dire circumstances.
This is the story of my two newest little sweeties. They now have a pasture to graze and new friends to play with. Needless to say, they will have all my and Cowboy’s love. They deserve it…
Patty and Lily are loving all the green grass and love playing with the other donkey’s.
Patty and Lily have grown to love all the carrot treats they get from Cowboy!
Lily loves playing with baby Andy, baby Charlie and baby Annie. They run and romp all over the pasture. We think they are all going to be good friends! Isn’t she a doll baby?
