Prickly Pear Cactus

Hate, hate, hate this cactus. It is definitely not a good thing to have at the farm. It grows everywhere and it is almost impossible to get rid of. It is not of any value (at least to farmers and ranchers) as no living thing can eat it. You can spray it, but it will […]

Girls Lake Trip

Nothing makes life better than a girl’s trip to the lake. We had lot’s of fun and were lucky that the weather actually provided us with two wonderful sunny days.  This was great way to start the summer season by spending a few days just boating and swimming all day with a little shopping on the side! Of course, the best part is enjoying time […]

Glacier Lilies

In early summer you will find Bear grass( Xerophyllum tenax) in the mountain areas. Bear grass is not only eaten by mountain goats, but elk, bighorn sheep and deer love it also. Supposedly, Grizzly bears do not really like it as much as other animals. Grizzly bears use Bear grass as a nesting material for their […]

Indian Blanket Flower

I love when late spring rolls around because my favorite wildflower appears. The Indian Blanket flower is also known as the Blanket Flower, Sundance Flower or the Firewheel. It is a small flower that resembles a daisy. You will find them in pastures, rocky areas and along the side of the road. They are very small, but in […]

April Irises

I have a really pretty white Iris bed. It is in front of our farm house under a tree by the metal fence. Half of flowers are in our yard and the other half on the road side. I think everyone that drives by must enjoy them every spring.  Last fall I cleaned the bed, […]

Flea Market Girl’s Trip

A college friend and I traveled for a day trip to see a special friend who has recently moved about two hours away. We had the most fun ever! It was wonderful to laugh, tell old stories and spend time together. By the end of the day we had literally laughed all day long. We even chuckled when we […]

Hidden Rosebuds

Cowboy had bulldozing done this week to clean out unwanted cedar. As a surprise, he had the bulldozer man clear me out a few hiking trails and new areas to explore. In the process they found a lovely grove of Red Bud trees that had been in a hidden wooded area. Now I have my own special secret grove […]

Heavenly Bluebonnets

This photo is of our Bluebonnet field three years ago. We had an entire pasture full of flowers and they were absolutely stunning. We have had plenty of rain this winter so should have them this season, but I am not seeing them like I did a few years ago. It will be interesting to see what happens. […]

Summer Garden

I have seen many beautiful gardens in Montana. Several of my Montana friends have lovely gardens. I am always amazed and in awe of how gorgeous they are. This particular garden has been planted around a pretty stream which my friend dug in her yard. She also has a really nice pond where the ducks swim. […]

Cows in Flowers

I loved this little group of cows. Over the years, we usually have had Black Angus or Black Angus Mixes. This group always made for great photo opportunities. They were easier to get a nice photo than the Angus are. This photo  was taken on a beautiful spring day and the flowers were starting to bloom […]

Hoping for a Bumper Crop… of Flowers!

Last spring we were without any flowers. Not one wild flower anywhere. We were in the middle of a severe drought which left us with barely any green at all. This has been an extremely wet winter and it appears our spring will have an abundance of moisture also. If this happens, then we should […]

The Bluebonnet Boys

These are our sweet “retired” hunting dogs! They do not hunt anymore as they are both very old, but they can still love us to pieces. They are both happy dogs and at the end of the day all they demand is their treats!
